ISO/TS16949:2009 is the technical specification of the international automotive industry, which is based on ISO9001 and incorporates the technical specifications of the automotive industry. This specification is fully consistent with the ISO9000:2008, but focuses more on defect prevention and reduces quality fluctuations and waste in the automotive parts supply chain. The ISO/TS16949 standard of the pertinence and applicability is very clear, only suitable for the automobile plant and its direct spare parts manufacturer, but also that these manufacturers must be directly related to the production of cars, to carry out manufacturing activities, and through this activity can make the products value added. At the same time, the certification company manufacturers qualification also has a strict limit, only those with support units, such as the design center, corporate headquarters and distribution center, or the manufacturing equipment and tools for vehicle manufacturers or automobile spare parts manufacturers manufacturers, can obtain certification. For the ISO/TS16949:2009 certification management is composed of 5 regulatory agencies on behalf of IATF to complete, they use the same procedure to monitor the operation and implementation of the ISO/TS16949 specification, to form a complete system of unified standards and operating in the world.

ISO/TS16949:2002 was developed by IATF in support of the ISO/TC176 quality management and quality assurance technical committee. The third edition of ISO/TS16949 cancelled and replaced the second edition, which was technically revised under ISO9001:2008. Since ISO/TS16949:2009 already contains all of the contents of ISO9001:2008, the certification of ISO/TS16949:2009 also marks the ISO9001:2008 standard.

These manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, processing capacity, and through the realization of this ability, so that value-added products.
